Thanksgiving is observed on the every fourth Thursday of November in the US. In Canada the second Monday of October is a public holiday on account of Thanksgiving. The holiday is celebrated in remembrance of the pilgrims and in order to give thanks.This year 2012, it will be celebrated on Thursday, November 22nd in US and on Monday, Oct 8th in Canada. The next year 2013 dates for US and Canada are respectiveley Thursday, November 28th and Monday, Oct 14.
